Candlemas Blessing of Candles Sunday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation, also known as Candlemas. Forty days after Christmas the infant Jesus was presented in the temple of Jerusalem and placed in the arms of the old man Simeon (Luke 2:22-40) who declared: ...A Light to enlighten the nations, and the glory of your people Israel. It is a tradition to bless candles to be used in the Church on this day, as well as those for homes, to signify by an outward sign, Jesus as the light that came into the darkness of the world. There will be a blessing and procession at each Mass in our parishes. Bring any candles from home that you would like to have blessed to Mass. There will also be small candles that will be blessed and available for you to take home.
